Francois van der
Walt
B. Sc Honours (Statistics and Operations
Research)
Business Intelligence Specialist
Francois is a Statistician who specialises in measuring
the performance of a business.
In business today, an overwhelming amount of data is available,
with the potential to dramatically improve the overall
success of a business. However, the value of transforming
data into meaningful information that actually contributes
to the knowledge of the Company is always underestimated,
as is the value of converting strategy into measures that
are meaningful and relevant. Very few businesses ultimately
arrive at the point of sustaining the strategy by means
of these measures and adapting the measures for the changes
in the business environment. Yet it is precisely this
sophisticated use of business intelligence that sets one
business apart from another in today’s competitive
environment. Francois has facilitated and implemented
business intelligence solutions to companies over the
past 25 years, 13 years as a Principal with Ernst &
Young.
Francois has worked in a wide range of industries, applying
statistical analysis techniques and measuring the implementation
of strategy. He has used SAS, SQL Server 2005 and Excel
in various environments, in order to implement the agreed
upon techniques. His comprehensive skills and ample experience
enable him to successfully complete any assignment, from
the conception of ideas through to the delivery of a specified
application.
Francois is a part-time lecturer at Christian Heritage
College in IT Fundamentals and Business Statistics. He
is an admirer of Edward Deming and is well acquainted
with modern tools and techniques, as implemented in Six
Sigma. He is an experienced facilitator and is acknowledged
as a vibrant speaker.
Recent clients include Crown Casino, Sunsuper and the
Department of Training and Arts. These assignments involved
the application of Data mining, specification and selection
of Business Intelligence Software and the development
of Key Performance Indicator reports.
